Meet our Featured Mommy of January 29th!

Describe yourself and your blog.

Although I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, my true credentials lie in being the mom of 4 lifeschooled, home birthed children. I specialize in leading individuals to uncover the messages in chronic health conditions and in their children’s challenging behaviors, empowering people to learn DIY healing techniques, such as EMDR and TAT, at home. Learn more on my website and in my books Understanding Your Child As A Spiritual Gift and Understanding Morning Sickness as a Gift.

What is the best moment you have had as a mom?

There are so many moments, it is hard to pick just one. Every day I am in awe about how much I learn from them, realizing how much my children act like my husband and me. Some days one of my children does something that I love and I see myself, my husband or a combo of us in them. Then in other moments, even in that same day, they do something annoying and I see myself, my husband or a combo, and I realize it is a message to us about how we need to grow.

Advice you can give to other moms.

Accept your child’s difficult behaviors as a gift waiting to be opened. As I struggled with my second daughter who screamed uncontrollably for over two years, I came to understand that children’s behaviors are manifestation of the parents’ unexpressed feelings. As I learned how to decipher my children’s messages and embrace tantrums as a message to my husband and I about what we were not expressing, our whole world changed and my daughter stopped her two plus year tantrum.

What is the scariest part about being a mom?

Watching my kids in physical or emotional pain is challenging for me. When they are in pain, I try to look back at my husband or I and figure out what we are suppressing and how that is coming out through them. When we can figure out how our unexpressed emotions are affecting them, we can find ways to authentically express ourselves and often resolve their pain.

Tell us a story about motherhood:

My journey into motherhood started with a battle with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a severe form of morning sickness. Although HG is such a debilitating illness, I am grateful that it led me to homebirth—a magnificent, empowering entrance into motherhood and how HG taught me that challenges are gifts to embrace as a beneficial tool leading you to heal unresolved trauma.
