Irregular Periods? Get Your Period On Track With These 4 Tips

The average menstrual cycle, calculated from the first day of your period to the first day of your next, takes roughly 29 days but varies for all women. A regular period is considered to appear every 24 to 38 days. On the other hand, an irregular period means that the time between your monthly periods constantly changes, so your periods come too early or too late. So, what can you do to get your period back on track? Here are a few treatment tips to help you:

An irregular period means that the time between your monthly periods constantly changes, so your periods come too early or too late. So, what can you do to get your period back on track? Here are a few treatment tips to help you:

Check your diet

If you have realized that your periods are getting irregular, one of the first things to check is what you are eating. When you are not getting the right nutrients, it may affect important glands like your pituitary and adrenal glands. These glands are important in keeping your body’s hormones balanced, which is necessary for a regular period. Ensure that you are eating the recommended amount of carbs and fats to support ovulation. It would help to consider taking dietary supplements that address certain nutritional deficiencies.

Birth control pills

Doctors often prescribe birth control pills to their patients who have irregular periods. These pills all work to keep hormone levels balanced, therefore regulating your periods and relieving you from some symptoms such as cramps or acne. Getting on hormonal birth control may have several side effects like weight gain, severe headaches, and occasionally, nausea. Ensure that you consult with your doctor to find the pills that work best for you.

Hormone replacement therapy

Biologically, women produce fewer volumes of testosterone than men. But as men age, their natural testosterone levels also decline, which explains why testosterone replacement therapy services are a great option for men. Having too high or low testosterone levels or general hormonal imbalance can cause irregular menstruation.

However, it would be best to talk to your doctor, who might refer you to an endocrinologist to help establish the cause of your hormonal imbalance and will help you recalibrate your hormones for more regular periods. If your testosterone levels are too high, your doctor will likely prescribe anti-androgens to help lower its volume.

Stress management

Research has shown that the adrenal glands release progesterone and cortisol to briefly reduce tension when stressed out. While these hormones may be helpful, they may also aid in throwing your menstrual cycle totally off balance. When you’re stressed out, the best option is to seek more lasting treatments.

You can reduce your stress levels through deep breathing exercises and meditation. You can also take up a hobby or sign up for an exercise class. Studies have also shown that people who spent 35 minutes practicing yoga every day saw improvements in the regularity of their cycles.

Overall

These are a few tips to help you deal with your irregular period. However, it is important to note that consistent irregular periods could signify an underlying health issue. Consult with your doctor to help you identify any causes and help you develop the best treatment plan. Remedying irregular periods might be time-consuming and requires a lot of patience.
