Moms: How to Stop Feeling Guilty for Me Time This Spring

Everyone needs me time. Working moms, stay at home moms, pregnant moms, and so forth. We need “Me” time to help preserve our mental health. Spring is a time for cleaning up and getting ready for the summer and this would be a great time for moms to take some “Me” time.

Why should you feel guilty about taking some time for yourself? Even if you were to go away for the weekend with your friends or on a yoga retreat, that is your time you get to spend. Your family will be okay without your for a few hours or even for the entire weekend. In order to be the best that you can be for everyone, it is important that you take care of yourself too. If you find yourself not having left your kids in a long time and lacking adult interaction, especially as a stay at home mom, then you need to consider adding in some “me time” into your schedule.

How do you stop feeling guilty about taking time? Every mom will feel some guilt when they leave their child at daycare, with a babysitter, with dad, with grandparents, etc. because they feel like their kiddo will miss them so much that they won’t enjoy their time away. It is important that you remember that your children need to have bonds with other adults and kids too and if they are around you 24/7, then they will always rely on you. Whether you are going to workout, or going to happy hour with friends, you need to go and do these things!

Here are some reasons why you should stop feeling guilty:

You Deserve it

From the minute you conceived, you have been doing everything in your power to make sure that your children were okay and cared for. That didn’t stop when they exited the womb and now have become little crying humans. Whether it being to go workout, go get your nails done, get a massage, go shopping – you deserve to do these things alone with any other little humans to worry about.

Dad Needs Some Daddy Time

Usually when we are home, the kids usually migrate to mommy. Mommy usually has lots of the answers and can do many more of the tasks that are needed than daddy can, so mommy usually gets all of the work for the kids. You should allow you husband to get some kid time in and let him have some one on one with your children too.

Be a Better Mom

Sometimes being around your kids full time can burn you out. Even as a working mom, coming home to taking care of kids every single night, you feel the same sort of tiredness. If you get to have some mental breaks, this can help you be a better mom by having more patience and being more relaxed.

Hang Out With Friends

Being a busy mom, hanging out with friends never gets to happen. Schedule a time monthly or bi-weekly where you can go to happy hour with your friends or friend. Maybe go shopping or hiking – do something! Having adult contact is a healthy thing for you and your family.

Final thoughts

Taking care of yourself too is so important so that you can be the best you can be for your family. This time away allows you to put more effort into your relationship with your husband and your kids. Take that time, as often as you need. You have support, just make sure to reach out and use it.
