Every day for the countdown until Christmas I will be having guest bloggers visit my page and share some tips they have learned along the way in their motherhood journey. Be on the look out for our Guest Bloggers Series!
This week saw the annual Gingerbread house building contest here in Dubai at our local golf club. The contest is quite something with over a 100 kids taking part. Although a lot of fun, there is some fierce competition going on from both kids and parents. It’s something we have done every year since moving to Dubai, so we were truly geared up and excited to take part. Lola in particular had planned her design and even drawn sketches of her gingerbread masterpiece!
Cut to the 17th December, I’m stood at the stove cooking up the kids teas and my phone rings,
Lady: “Oh hi Miss Amy, the Gingerbread contest started at 4pm, we are worried you may miss it!”
Me: “Oh no, (I’m now looking at Lola thinking cr*p, cr*p, cr*p) it’s almost 5pm, I don’t think we’ll make it, I thought it was on the 18th, the same as last year!”
Lady: “Oh miss, Lola will be very sad, she takes part every year!..”
Me: “I know, I know..” (BAD, BAD MUM! I AM DEFINITELY ON THE NAUGHTY LIST NOW)
I broke the news to Lola and devastation, tears and the bad mum feels engulfed the house for the next hour or so.
I frantically looked for an alternative, and Dubai being the entertainment giver that keeps on giving had another fab Christmas event perfect for the kids AND had GINGERBREAD HOUSES!
So we headed to the Souk Festive Markets at the Madinat Jumeirah where Christmas had truly come to town. Santa, snow fights (totally artificial of course), train rides and Mulled wine gave us festive cheer once more. Huhrar!
