Are you thinking about breastfeeding your baby? Or have you already started breastfeeding and are thinking about stopping? You can always hear that breastfeeding is the best nourishment you can give your child. Nevertheless, there are many myths and negative stories that can be quite frightening. I didn’t have a nice breastfeeding start myself, I wish I had done some things differently afterward. But, after the bumpy start, when you breastfeed your baby, a great relationship has started and meanwhile I am so happy that I kept going. As I said, there are valid reasons not to breastfeed and giving the bottle is also love, but if you are unsure whether you want to breastfeed, then I have 8 good reasons in my bag, so let’s go:
#1 No saggy breasts
Breastfeeding doesn’t make saggy breasts! The shape of the breasts depends on predisposition, pregnancy, time, gravity and tissue. Even without breast-feeding you can get sagging breasts and still get firm ones despite breastfeeding. Plus there are amazing bras for new moms that you can easily breastfeed. The Larken X bra help give new moms the support they need without having to take off your entire bra to breastfeed. Not only is it super soft, but it is also super convenient when pumping at work or at home.
#2. Sleeping better
Breastfeeding mothers sleep better! What? I thought children with formula sleep better?! According to a study, this is probably not the case, because: „Specifically, there is research to show that at 3 months postpartum, breastfeeding was associated with an increase of about 45 minutes in sleep and reduced sleep disturbance“
#3. Super healthy
Mother’s milk is incredibly healthy! Your baby receives living components such as stem cells, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, hormones, enzymes, antibodies and much more. No powder milk can imitate that!
#4. It’s healthy for mom
Breastfeeding is also healthy for the mother, right! It reduces the risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer or type 2 diabetes! And it helps your uterus to recover faster after giving birth.
#5. No cost
Breastfeeding doesn’t cost money! According to a study, an American household saves 1,500 USD in the first year by breastfeeding.
#6. Sustainable
When we think of our planet, breastfeeding is even sustainable! A study has extrapolated that in the US 4,000 liters of water are needed per 1 liter of formula milk (production, transport, waste, cleaning, etc.). That is a lot!
#7. Higher IQ
Breastfed children have been shown to have a higher IQ and become less aggressive due to the hormone oxytocin. In addition, they receive on average more physical contact and cuddling, as this is often associated when you breastfeed your baby.
#8. Makes you happy
Now the probably most beautiful argument: Breastfeeding makes you happy! Studies show that nursing mothers are happier, less stressed and more sensitive for their children: “which is likely to positively influence their maternal behaviors”
These are only 8 good reasons to breastfeed your baby, would you like to hear 65 reasons? Then read on! And, are you convinced of breastfeeding or what is holding you back or has held you back?
