3 Simple Ways To Tear Your Kids Away From Their Screens

It can be frustrating as a parent to see your kids on their laptops, smartphones, and tablets when the sun is shining outside, and all you want to do is head outdoors with them. They may prefer conversing with strangers online from across the globe as they play the latest RPG huddled away in their bedrooms. This can lead to an unhealthy relationship with gaming, social media, and screens. You need to limit their screen time not by enforcement but by facilitating more attractive options for them. Forget about laying down the law and lead by example instead. Take a look at these three simple ways to tear your kids away from their screens.

Quality Family Time

With the era of coronavirus comes no school for many children. As schools shut to prevent the spread of Covid-19, many children are heading to their video games rather than doing anything else. They long to see their friends, and the next best thing is to chat with them while playing some generic shooting game.

You need to break this habit and generate some quality family moments. Most kids yearn for the attention of their parents, even though they won’t admit it. Tell them that you will be dedicating chunks of your time solely to them. You can suggest activities to do together, or better still, empower them to choose. They might want to head to the park with a soccer ball, play some frisbee or head out for a picnic. Encourage them to consider options for outdoor activities and follow their lead. Any suggestions that they come up with, pounce on them. This will tear them away from their screens.

Sort Out The Garden

Many children won’t head outdoors because the back garden isn’t fit for purpose. It’s up to you to sort it out. Clear your garden of waste and overgrowth, and consider the sort of zones you want to create in your outdoor area. Have a lawned area to allow your kids to let off steam and run around. Have a space where you can set up games. If you don’t have space for a trampoline, consider a rebounder instead. You might wonder what is a rebounder, but this is the smaller mini trampoline that can easily be stored away, is compact, and will allow your little darlings to expend as much energy as they need.

Indoors

When indoors, you can still foster quality family moments. Think about cooking together. There’s nothing more exciting than baking a cake and decorating it with your little darlings. Allow them to choose the sponge flavor and the frosting, and get baking. Being together fosters quality moments and memory-making. You could also set up some art sessions, construct some lego together, or have a movie marathon day. If the weather is dire, whip out the hot chocolate and marshmallows and watch the latest Pixar movie on TV.

As long as you are together as a family and sharing moments of joy, you can tear your kids away from their screens.
