Tips You Need to Get Your School Age Kids to Sleep Every Night

If you have a school age child, then you know that getting them to go to sleep at a good time at night is difficult! No matter the day, it can be a challenge. So, what do you do when it is a school night and they are wide awake? We know the feeling and it can be really frustrating as a parent and make you feel helpless. But we have some tips for you in order to help get your school age kids to sleep every night.

Use The Good Patch

To begin, one of the best ways that I have found to get my daughter to sleep is to use The Good Patch. She has had so much built up energy and it has been hard to get it all out so we have been in need of some assistance with getting her to sleep. The Good Patch has created owl shaped patches for kids called Nite Owl that help send kids to bed with the natural benefits of tart cherry, chamomile, and skullcap. Their patches contain purely plant-based ingredients infused in cute owl shaped patches for kids. The patch can be put on your child’s skin for up to 12 hours. Then you peel off the patch in the morning when they wake up. Put the patch on your child’s wrist before they go to sleep and let the natural ingredients do their job!

The best ages for the Nite Owl patches are 4 and up. After using the patches, we noticed that our daughter, who is 6, was sleeping much better at night and she would be able to go to sleep a lot faster. She actually asks for the Nite Owl patch because she doesn’t like to toss and turn when she goes to sleep, she likes to just be able to lay down and relax. As a mom, this made me really happy because I knew how unhappy she was when going to sleep and being restless.

Does this sound amazing? Trust us, it is! Shop their website for the Nite Owl patches! Make sure to use the discount code TEACH.WORKOUT.LOVE200FF. If your child has an allergy to adhesive bandages, such as Band Aids, then do not use this product.

Have a routine and stick to it!

Another great tip for helping your school age child get to sleep is to make sure to have a routine! Routine is so key for all ages of children that it is important to find one that works for you and stick with it. Once you start leaving the routine up to your kids is where the later the bedtime comes in and the less time you have to yourself at night. Our routine that we have been able to stick with is as follows:

Get a sound machine

A great way to help promote sleep is to provide a sleep sound machine. There are so many out there now that it is easy to find. Find one that is easy to transport with you in case you do travel because once they get use to sleeping with sounds, it is hard to stop! But, it can really be helpful if your child likes to know what everyone is doing when they are trying to go to sleep and can hear the TV. Sleep sound machines and air purifiers are a great way to help with the calming sounds to promote sleepiness. My daughter uses both of them at the same time. The sound machine is on a timer and instead of a fan for noise, we use an air purifier so it is making the air in her room clean, instead of with a fan pushing around dust.

Lose the iPad an hour before bedtime

One of the biggest things that we battle as parents is using technology before bed. Bluelight can really be detrimental to sleep for kids, it prolongs the ability to fall asleep.  Especially if they are watching something really active and engaging, they tend to want to keep watching it, pushing off the natural melatonin that their body is trying to make. This would be a good time to enter in reading a book into your routine so that way kids are not looking at their iPads or cell phones before going to sleep and are accessing the natural melatonin that their body is producing.

The Good Patch for school age kids

Overall

As parents, we know the struggles of getting our kiddos to go to sleep, so having some other options are really important. The Nite Owl patch  is a great natural solution to assisting your child into falling asleep. It is definitely worth it to try, especially if you are struggling daily to get them to sleep at a good bedtime. Also, if YOU are struggling with going to sleep, The Good Patch has you covered too! They have created the Nite Nite and Dream patches for adults, probably moms like me, who have trouble falling to sleep as well. On the flip side, they have the Rise and Shine patches, which are infused with caffeine, B12 and green tea extract to help get you through the afternoon slump. Luckily, we have so many options to help us in our parenthood journey in the best ways possible!
