Dyrehavsbakken

Commonly called Bakken Deer Park or simply Bakken, this wonderful attraction is the oldest operating amusement park in the world. Located in Lyngby-Taarbaek Kommune, this park officially opened in 1583.

Children of all ages will have a blast including toddlers; they will love the small children’s train and the carousel. Older kids will be thrilled to ride old wooden roller coasters and more modern rides that have been added through the years.

With over 30 different rides, you and the kids will have plenty to choose from no matter what type of ride is your favorite. The Old Slide is a must-see; it opened in 1932 and is built of wood. Build speed as you zip down the 2,700-foot slide.

Bornemuseet

Only a short train ride to Frederiksberg, this adorable children’s museum was once a horse stable. Grab the kids for a day of hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. Be sure to bring your camera to memorialize your time at the Bornemuseet.

Adults can get a cup of coffee and pastry at the coffee shop while the kids frolic. After your children have explored and played, get them a delicious cupcake at the coffee shop. Order your tickets online before heading to the museum.

Tivoli Gardens

If you loved the oldest amusement park in the world, you will want to take an afternoon, or maybe an entire day, and visit the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world. Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843 and is a magical place to visit.

Visit on a Saturday and stay for the breathtaking fireworks display. Ride wooden roller coasters and other more modern rides, wander through the green spaces, and gorge yourself on terrific Danish carnival food. Get your tickets online to avoid long lines.

If you happen to plan your trip to Copenhagen during the Christmas season, you will have to see Tivoli decked out in lights, ornaments, and snowflakes. This winter wonderland is truly a sight you do not want to miss!

Copenhagen Zoo

A family trip to Copenhagen has to include a visit to the Copenhagen Zoo. Located just outside of Copenhagen in Frederiksberg, this zoo has so much to keep the kids busy. Adults will also enjoy seeing several of the 3,000 animals.

The Copenhagen Zoo can get crowded, especially on weekends so get your tickets online to ensure you get in. Visit the children’s zoo filled with snakes, ponies, and pygmy goats.

Wander through the 27 acres of the zoo and see hippos, elephants, polar bears, and seals. One of the oldest zoos in Europe is a true must-see when on a family trip to Copenhagen.

National Museum of Denmark – Copenhagen

Visit the largest museum in Denmark and spend hours learning about Danish culture through its fascinating history. The main part of the museum is just a short walk from the city center.

Sign up for a guided tour or wander through the National Museum of Denmark – Copenhagen on your own. Plan a Viking raid, visit a 1920s house, or try your hand at cooking the way they did in the Middle Ages.

Send your children through the children’s museum section and let them see history come to life. They can also press the boredom button on certain displays for fun animated informational panels or interactive displays to appear.

Valbyparken

Plan a few hours out in the fresh air and enjoying the beauty of nature. While Valbyparken is just outside the city center, it is the largest park in Denmark and a great place for families to congregate and have fun.

Filled with 17 themed gardens including one of the largest rose gardens in Europe, you and the kids will want to wander for hours. There is even a footbridge for the kids to explore. Grab a snack or pack a picnic and spend the afternoon relaxing in the park.

The Little Mermaid

Children, especially little girls, will be awed by the Little Mermaid statue sitting on a large rock on Nyhavn, the harbor street. The statue pays homage to the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen.

The statue was created by Edvard Eriksen and is one of the most popular attractions in Copenhagen. It is an especially popular place for families to visit and get their photos taken with the Little Mermaid.

National Aquarium Denmark

Also known as the Blue Planet, this aquarium is located in Kastrup, just outside of Copenhagen, and is the perfect place to spend a few hours with the kids. Get your tickets online to one of the largest aquariums in Europe.

Stroll through all five of the different areas of the aquarium including seeing sharks and tropical fish. Learn about the Coral Reef and its impact on our ecosystem. Visit the touch tanks and feel eels and stingrays.

Wander through the Amazon and experience anacondas and piranhas. See butterflies and birds as they flutter throughout certain sections of the aquarium. Bring your camera to memorialize your family trip to Copenhagen.

No matter what your itinerary looks like, you are sure to have a memorable time while in Copenhagen. There are so many things for the kids to see and experience including children’s museums, amusement parks, monuments, and even canal tours.
