11 Ways to Improve Your Air Quality

Your health may be significantly impacted by the air you breathe, whether you are indoors or outside. Poor outdoor air quality has been linked in studies to heart disease, lung cancer, and strokes. In actuality, the world health organization estimates that air pollution contributes to nearly seven million deaths annually around the world.

The environmental protection agency, however, warns that indoor air pollution might be even worse than outside pollution (EPA). And since most of our time is spent inside, according to studies, there is even more justification for starting an interior air quality program.

The environmental protection agency, however, warns that indoor air pollution might be even worse than outside pollution (EPA). And since most of our time is spent inside, according to studies, there is even more justification for starting an interior air quality program. Continue reading for advice on enhancing your home's indoor air quality without using chemicals.

1. Open your windows

It is the easiest and least expensive thing you can do to enhance the air quality within your home. To reduce the buildup of dangerous air pollutants in your indoor air, open your windows for even five minutes each day. To guarantee a clean air supply at night, consider sleeping with a window slightly open (in winter, add more covers at night). Open windows whenever you can when cleaning; the fresh air will enhance the final impression of cleanliness.

2. Incorporate houseplants into your decor

Numerous varieties of indoor plants remove typical volatile organic pollutants from the air. For instance, benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide may all be effectively reduced by spider plants.

Even NASA has commented on this: “in order to remove trace amounts of harmful gases from securely sealed structures, both plant leaves and roots are used. Plant leaves alone may purge interior surroundings of low quantities of pollutants like formaldehyde and carbon monoxide.”

3. Select aromatherapy diffusers.

Some essential oils, like tea tree oil, have antibacterial characteristics and may be used topically to cure cuts on your skin or even DIY household cleaners.

3. Pick candles made of beeswax.

This will become a little more technical, so please bear with me. The air we breathe also contains other gases, a mix of different compounds, and tiny particles in addition to the oxygen our bodies require to function correctly. Many of these substances are contaminants that, after entering the body through the lungs, constitute a health concern. Some studies even suggest a connection between breathing in ultra-fine particles and the onset of cancer or diabetes.

The good news is that certain plants may help filter out these dangerous air pollutants. Some plants can emit ions that bind to airborne contaminants that could be hazardous and neutralize them. Some claim that pure beeswax candles can assist in balancing these particles like plants, purifying the interior environment. Additional research is still required to understand whether beeswax candles can purify the air thoroughly.

Remember that burning a candle still releases soot into the air, so you’ll need to ensure your home has adequate ventilation.

5. Take your shoes off

Pesticides, pollen, fungus, germs, and excrement are just a handful of the gross things that the earth outside may bring. It’s recommended to remove your shoes or switch to a pair of slippers when you enter your home since any or all of that may be on the bottom of your shoes.

6. Maintain pet grooming

Pet dander—the skin cells of your pet—can be found practically anywhere in a house with pets. Dander, more so than pet fur, can worsen pre-existing asthma symptoms or lead to the onset of new ones. If you have a pet, regularly clean them, brush them outside if you can, and vacuum floors and furniture with a HEPA filter occasionally to reduce dander.

7. Switch on the air conditioning

A whole-house air filtering system is available if you have central air conditioning. Your home air is pulled outside, cooled, and pumped back inside. Most systems contain a filter that has to be changed frequently; while doing its purpose, this filter might trap particles. It will improve as you make additional changes. Find out the make and model of your air conditioning system and the manufacturer’s suggestions for filter replacement.

8. Use non-toxic cleaning products.

Many home cleaners purchased from stores include harmful ingredients that can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Although it’s preferable to stay away from them, at least keep the windows open if you must use them. Make your house cleaner using spoonful of vinegar, baking soda, etc.

9. Use an air purifier

Using air purifiers to eliminate dangerous airborne particles may be pretty successful. Having one in their room can be helpful if your child has asthma.

10. Eliminate mold

These fungi can disperse spores into the atmosphere, which can cause allergic reactions. In wet, dark areas like a bathroom, laundry room, or basement, mold likes to develop. But bleach is not required to remove it.

11. Give your cleaning cupboard a green makeover

Cleaning your house is a beautiful idea in and of itself. Or it would be if the bleach and other cleaning supplies in your cabinet weren’t harmful to breathe in. Additionally, they harm wildlife and contaminate rivers when washed down the drain.

Conclusion

If you believe that spraying a scented air freshener would purify your air, you must be mistaken. The majority of air fresheners only add extra potentially dangerous chemicals to your house while masking the aroma, which is another kind of indoor air pollution. According to research, the medical costs associated with the illnesses brought on by those chemicals cost nearly $340 billion annually in missed wages. Therefore, attentively study the material and make an effort to maintain the better air quality in your home for a healthier environment and to protect your health better.

To achieve that, FEND could be an option to think about. A natural mist solution is offered by fend to purify the air you breathe.
