6 Tips For Finding Enjoyment In Recovery

Recovering from an injury is no joke. Whether it’s a sports injury you picked up at the gym, a persistent niggle from running too far too fast, you’ve got to take recovery time seriously.

While it may be tough, this period of quiet and recovery presents a different opportunity. You could take this time to unfurl your creativity, to find enjoyment in different hobbies or talents, and explore parts of yourself that you didn’t know existed!

That’s not to say that this might not be the easiest time – it could be difficult – but there are always opportunities for growth. And within growth, you can find enjoyment, too. So, read on for 6 simple tips for finding enjoyment when you’re recovering from an injury.

That’s not to say that this might not be the easiest time – it could be difficult – but there are always opportunities for growth. And within growth, you can find enjoyment, too. So, read on for 6 simple tips for finding enjoyment when you’re recovering from an injury.

1. Lose yourself in stories

You may find you feel restless with all the resting you’re doing, so take the time to lose yourself in stories. If you love reading, then you can discover new or old favorites and embrace the time you have to let your imagination run wild. If reading’s not your thing but there are books on your list you’ve been meaning to read, then Audible is your friend.

2. Learn a language

What’s more enjoyable than achieving something? Nothing! So, by picking up a challenge like getting to grips with a new language, you can achieve daily goals like learning a new word or discovering how to structure a sentence. Apps like Rosetta Stone or even Duolingo can be a great place to start.

3. Resolve the issue

Take a moment to consider what caused your accident. Were you in a rush somewhere? Did your training cause it? See if you can learn anything from the experience – if you can, it won’t be wasted. Another thing to consider is using personal injury attorney services to guide through the process of claiming compensation.

4. Get enlightened

Nourish yourself from the inside out with mindfulness. You can deepen your practice or learn afresh while you’re recovering. And thanks to apps such as Calm or Headspace, you can get started right away from the comfort of your own bed!

5. Find your artistic side

How often have you found yourself longing to be able to paint or draw or throw a pot? When you’re slowing down to recovery physically, your mind can crave this even more. This is where you can flex your creative muscles through any kind of artistic endeavor. By getting creative, you can find true enjoyment in this period.

6. Planning makes perfect

Planning is so exciting – you can map out where you want to be in five years time, holidays you want to take, renovations you want to get going with. A time of enforced rest is a great chance for you to take stock of the situation and decide what you want your future to look like. It can be helpful to make a plan out on a wall-mounted whiteboard or chalkboard and keep it in your eye-line to keep you focussed.
