Get a Wood Stove

If you want to make a big improvement or change to your home in the run-up to Christmas that also adds a festive touch, then Drolet wood stoves look great while adding a lot of heat to your home. If you’ve been spending some time thinking about how you could reduce your energy bills this winter, then it’s never too late to get a wood-burner and a roaring fire in your living room. As long as you’re burning seasoned wood that is no more than 20% moist, wood burners these days are also more environmentally friendly than you might think.

Get the Lighting Right

Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spare on making festive improvements to your home, some simple changes to the lighting can make all the difference over the holiday season. Using fairy lights or even your Christmas tree for lighting can really make your home feel festive, cozy and warm in the run-up to the big day. Consider hanging lights from the ceiling or walls or around your windows. If you want to save electricity, then battery-powered Christmas lights are a great idea.

Pile Up the Pillows

Feeling warm, cozy and festive at home is all part of the festive season, so it’s time to think about getting any winter furnishings out. Faux fur cushions and throws might have been tucked away during the summer and even the autumn, but they definitely won’t look out of place at Christmas time. It’s perfect for snuggling up around the sofa with hot chocolates to watch your favorite Christmas movies.

Add Festive Scents

Festive scents can really make your home feel warm and inviting, and there are so many to choose from. There are just as many ways to bring delicious, festive scents into your home as well, in the form of diffusers, wax burners, scented candles, plug-ins and more. Warming, spicy scents like cinnamon or orange and star anise are perfect for the festive time of year.

Put Presents Under the Tree

If you have already finished your Christmas shopping and have had an organized year, then don’t tuck the gifts away until Christmas Eve. There’s always something really festive about presents waiting underneath the Christmas tree, so you may as well get the wrapping out of the way and get them on display. Of course, if you don’t want to risk them getting damaged, then you can always wrap boxes to look like gifts for a festive effect.

Hang Stockings

Finally, whether you are sticking with your usual fireplace or having a log-burner installed, hanging stockings on the mantel is a staple festive decoration. You can hang them up at any time to bring more holiday cheer into your home and start filling them with gifts now or wait until Christmas Eve. Don’t forget that if you have a log burner, you’ll need to be careful about the distance to combustibles, so make sure that your stockings are hung safely, or taken away when the fire is lit.
