Some Self-Care Strategies for Darker Days

The self-care for darker days have arrived, and it’s time to think about our health and well-being. The darker days have arrived, and it's time to think about our health and wellbeing. With lower light levels almost all the time, it's important to catch the sun during the day - in a healthy way - eat nourishing food, and find inspiration throughout the winter to make sure we live happily.

Catch the Sun

The is less light in winter. The days are shorter, and it’s harder to get your fill of vitamin D. The light levels can also affect your circadian rhythms, which can affect your sleep patterns and your wellbeing. Make sure you catch the sun when you can and get your fill of vitamin D for health.

As you might imagine, the best time to catch the sun is in the afternoon when the home star is highest in the earth’s sky. Even in the northern hemisphere, where the sun skirts the horizon most of the day, the afternoon is best. Plan to take a winter walk in the afternoon for sunshine.

Avoid the Sun

In winter, you want to capture as much sun as you can and absorb the lovely vitamin D into your face, but you need to be careful as well; the sun in winter is just as strong as the sun in summer, thanks to its powerful UV radiation. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen when you are out in winter.

If you are walking around the city and local parks, you can probably get away with n SPF 30 sunscreen, but you will have to increase that to SPF 50 if you intend to go winter hiking or take to the slopes for a winter vacation. The good news is sunscreen works and contains moisturizer.

Nourishing Meals

When the light starts to change, so do our diets; the body starts to store more fat because there is less light outside to nourish us. The lower light levels also mean there are fewer opportunities to exercise outside and burn some calories; this all adds up to weight gain and reduced health.

On the other hand, the winter months are excellent for root vegetables that are both nourishing and inexpensive. In th shops, you can pick up lots of interesting root vegetables that are all in season and make stews, soups, and roasted vegetables out of them. The perfect combination.

Finding Balance

When the light starts to disappear, and the summer memories start to fade, it becomes harder to maintain the life balance you had in the spring and summer seasons. The life balance referred to here is the balance between a healthy appearance, a healthy mind, and a healthy lifestyle.

Still, winter can be a time of balance, too, especially with all the festive events coming up. You might think about balancing your life with meditation and yoga or start something new and Become a Registered Dental Assistant. Dental assistants earn well and have good prospects.

New Inspiration

With dark days ahead, we need to think of new ways to feel inspired about our life and the future. One excellent way to do this is to start a gratitude journal to write in daily. An attitude of gratitude is what is needed for all of the amazing people in our lives and for things we can do.
