5. Different kinds of protein

It is important to consume protein on a ketogenic diet. However, you should always opt for the highest quality possible. We would highly recommend avoiding milk & dairy and factory-farmed animal products. Let’s go over these in more detail.

Milk & dairy

It is important to note that you can eat full-fat versions of certain dairy products, including batter, Greek yogurt, heavy cream, and sour cream. However, it is a good idea to avoid any low-fat products and milk because these commonly contain more carbohydrates and sugars. It is also important to consider just how much lactose is in the cheese that you consume. When drinking milk, it is okay to go for the raw variety, but only in small doses. We would highly discourage you from consuming pasteurized milk because it is difficult to digest, and it lacks beneficial bacteria.

Factory farmed protein

Your body will be much more healthy if you go for pastured, organic, and grass-fed meat rather than consuming factory-farmed protein. The animals in factory-farmed conditions have not had good lives, and so their nutrition has suffered as a result. If you consume this kind of neat, you’re not going to get as many nutrients as you could have done when consuming animals that have had ample nutrition.

Here are some other tips that we would highly recommend on the subject:

  • Avoid dairy and grain-fed meat because the animals have had less nutrition and omega-3 in their diet.
  • Factory farms pork and fish are usually high in inflammatory omega six and fatty acids, which can be bad for your body. Not only this, but factory-farmed fish has usually been found to contain higher volumes of trace elements than fish caught in the wild.
  • Processed meat is good to avoid because it is full of junk that is bad for your body.
